SETTING UP, PUTTING IN BEAT YOUR PENDULUM CLOCK

SETTING UP, PUTTING IN BEAT YOUR PENDULUM CLOCK

A difficult topic to address, as there are quite a few different types of pendulum clock. Each will require a different approach, although the principle is mainly the same. The issue here is that it always takes a bucket load of words to convey what would only take minutes to show...bear with me.
GOAL: to have your clock running consistently with a steady and even beat. The word to note here is "beat". Very much like a heart beat, the beat of your clock should be steady, even and preferably strong. What you are trying to achieve is an even release of power, this is done by the escapement (the top bit that the pendulum hangs on). When a clock/timepiece runs, the sound should be balanced

COPY AND REPLACEMENT QUALITY MEDALS

Having collected medals for 40 years I am not new to the hobby, but am relatively new to e-bay. One of the changes to have taken off in the past few years, and particularly noticable on e-bay is the sale of copy medals, (not fakes, so long as they are honestly described and priced and marked "copy").
The grey area comes when such medals are described as "replacement quality", indicating that they are somthing better than average. Replacement medals have been available through official channels for many years to be supplied to receipients who have lost their original medals. They are normally

The Wearing of Masonic Emblems and Jewellery by non-Mas

During the time that I have been interested in Masonic Jewellery and
Emblems I have had many enquiries from Masons and non-Masons as the
correct wearing of jewellery and emblems. An example of the kind of
question I would be asked is:I have inherited a Masonic
ring from my late uncle, would it be correct for me to wear it? I am
not a member of The Craft myself. In answering
questions like this, I can only refer to my own instincts, common sense
and what I have learnt from the senior Brethren in my own Lodge. My
answer would be:I understand that you want to remember
your late uncle by wearing his Past Masters Masonic ring. Think, if you
will, what your Grandfather had to do to earn the right to wear that
ring, years of study in order to go through the various degrees,
finally attaining the Degree of a Master Mason, working in the Lodge as
Inner Guard, Deacon, Junior and Senior Warden and then his year of
office in the chair of King Solomon. It is no mean task. But there are
other reasons. This ring tells other Masons, that the wearer has worked
through and understands our way of life, our principles, beliefs and
customs. So by all means keep the ring, take it out of its box, admire
it, cherish it. But do not wear it unless you your self should one day
earn the right to wear it as your Uncle did.

Towbars and the law, are you aware of the regulations ?

European type approval 94/20/EC
In the U.K, with effect from 1st August 1998 all Passenger Carrying Vehicles up to 3500kgs Gross Vehicle Weight (M1 Vehicles) can only be fitted with European Type Approved towbars if the vehicle has received European Whole Vehicle Type Approval. However in other EU countries this extends to commercial vehicles, so if you buy a towbar and
Non M1 vehicles, light commercial vehicles and private imports from outside the EEC do not need Approved Towbars; however, most car and some Light Commercial Vehicles such as vans commonly use the Type Approved Towbar.
Accessories Most towbar manufacturers have allowed, in the towbar test and approval application, for the inclusion of various accessories, often by including a spacer in the towbar kit, which is removed when the accessory is fitted. This information should be clearly stated in the fitting instructions. If there is any doubt, you should contact the towbar supplier. This would apply to all accessories that move the towbar rearwards from the towbar.
Design, Testing and Certification The towbar manufacturer requires the following vehicle data to design a towbar:

Manufacturer's specified fixing points.

Gross vehicle weight or mass (GVW or GVM)

Gross Trailer Weight or Mass (GTW or GTM) that the model of vehicle can tow.

This information is included in the Vehicle's Handbook. From this data the towbar manufacturer constructs a test load, called D Value, which will be used to test the towbar. As well as providing the test load, the towbar manufacturer is obliged to include a D value in kn on the towbar identification plate.
"D" ValueThe "D" value is calculated as follows:(GVW x GTW ) / (GVW GTW) x 9.81/1000 (gravity)= knWhere GVW is Gross Vehicle Weight, and GTW Gross Trailer Weight. The maximum D value for an M1 vehicle is 17.7kn that represents a GVW of 3500 kgs towing GTW of 3500kgs.
It is possible to design a towbar that fits the whole range of models of one particular vehicle. Because Towing Capacity is related to GVM then each model may have a different value for D. To prevent overload of the Towing Vehicle refer to the Vehicle Manufacturers' Handbook to confirm the GTW for your particular model.
Towbars can be fitted by anyone so long as they are fitted to the manufactures specification and on passenger vehicles registered after 1st Aug 1998 they are approved the the specifications above.Below is a quick checklist to make sure that you are buying a towbar which is fit for purpose and complys' to EC legislation.

On Private passenger vehicles from 1st Aug 1998 onwards (S Plate) always check that the towbar you are fitting to the vehicle has a type approval plate. This will give the approval number together with the part number for the towbar. So EC countries will ask for a copy of the type approval certificate. Your supply should be able to provide this for you

Before selecting a towbar look at the fitting instructions for the towbar to see if the fitting is within your capabilities. Most towbar sellers can provide pre sales advise and we in fact provide links on all our listings to the fitting instructions of the towbars we sell. By asking questions you can tell if your seller has experience of selling and working with towbars, they are not just passing on a commodity for sale. Good pre sales advise will also mean you are likely to get good post sales support.

When fitting a towbar if in doubt ask !!! One quick question can save you a lot of time and also ensure that the equipment is being installed to manufactures specification. By selecting a seller which openly offers this support can ensure that a safe installation is made.

If you decide to purchase a second hand towbar always ensure you obtain the fitting instructions to install it. We have these available on our fitting instructions website which you can access on any of our listings . This will ensure you are not missing items which can be easily done. If you do not fit the item to the manufactures specification you will be breaking type approval for the equipment on passenger vehicles manufactured after 1st Aug 1998. More importantly this could mean that the item is fitted unsafely and could cause injury if used.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us we will be happy to help, email us at from our ebay shop.
This guide is written by towbarman01 with reference from the National Trailer and Towing Association. Towbarman01 is the user name of Towequipe who has been selling and fitting towbars for over 35 years, and selling on ebay for over 5 years. They are a family company now run by the 2nd generation of the Rowson family and six members of the team our family members.

Pen Buying Guide

Overview:
Since the dawn of mankind, there has been a need to document through the use of a writing instrument. From scribes on a wall, writing instruments have advanced to modern pens that come in a variety of types with various features. When choosing a type of pen to purchase, purpose, quality, comfort and price are important factors to consider.
Product Choices:
BallpointA ballpoint pen is a pen that uses a small rotating ball to disperse ink as you write. Most ballpoint pens depend on gravity to disperse the ink onto the writing surface; therefore, they do not always work when used at an angle or sideways. Ballpoint pens are less likely to leak than fountain pens because of the thickness of the ink.
FountainFountain Pen contains the nib and the feed. The nib is the triangular shaped writing tip that gets ink from the reservoir through the feed. It

How to Tell a Fake Hermes Replica Handbag?

Here are few approaches I found on internet to spot a replica or fake Hermes Handbag. I enlist some methods below for your references. If you'd like to buy a genuine Hermes Designer bag, you must ensure that the product you are getting is authenticate and not an elaborated copy.
Determining the authenticity on Hermes Bags, or any product can be a little tricky, but if you know the basics, you will be able to spot a fake in just a few seconds.
One of the best ways to ensure your new Hermes handbag is authentic is to look at the bag itself. Hermes handbags are popular and cost as much as they due because first and for-most they are made from quality materials. Take a good look at the stitching. There should be no loose or missing stitches, the color of the thread should match the main color of the bag and the stitches should be evenly spaced. If the handbag is leather, the logo should be engraved, not just printed on the leather.
Look at the hardware. The hardware should match in color and sheen. Many manufactures, including Hermes, Hermes and Hermes, protect their hardware with a cover that is to be removed only after it has been purchased. The brand name or logo should be engraved, not embossed or simply printed on the hardware. You can also find the brand name of logo engraved on the strap hardware on Hermes, Hermes, Hermes.
Inspect the material the lining, hardware and accents are made of. Many handbags are made of different types of leather, from Lambskin, Calfskin, Goatskin and Patent Leather, but it is easy to distinguish if the leather is of a good quality or not. The lining is usually made of a satin material that has a nice shine to it and most designer handbags have the name brand name or logo on the lining. Designers almost always use leather accents, not plastic. Some purses have straps that are specially coated and seem to be artificial. However a quick look at the edge of the strap, usually near a stitched joint, should reveal a leather core.
If there is an authenticity card. An authenticity card is a little card that usually has the manufactures logo embossed on the front and has some information about the product you purchased and sometimes includes a magnetic strip, bar code. Many manufacturers, including LV, Fendi, Kate Spade and Hermes, use these cards.
If you buy wisely, and check the bag carefully, you will be able to spot a fake.
Hope this helps please vote below.

Reserve Price Versus Start Price Bidding Confidence

E-Bay is an auction site! this may seem obvious but as someone who attends "real" auctions this is a point missed by many members. If you have items people want they will sell, if nobody wants your item it will not sell whatever the price.
Now to the point of this guide, why start an auction with a high start bid then have a hidden reserve price, this practice annoys me and I am sure a lot of other people as well. Remember I said it was an auction site in the above situation what usually happens is someone bids say

Auctiva Auction Management Tool

Auctiva is without a doubt one of the best Auction Management Tools i've come across for sellers. It allows you to manage your listings, images, auction templates, build a shop etc. All of these features are very costly when you use the Ebay Tools but through Auctiva, you can do all these things for free! Yes, absolutely free!! It pretty much starts with the straight-forward registration process, it them goes into asking you for your Ebay username and for permission to sync up with your Ebay account, all of which is totally allowed by Ebay themselves, as the designers of Auctiva are part of the Ebay Development Team. Auctiva will then import all your Active listings into its system, don't worry, they are still 'Live' on Ebay, it simply imports them so that you may start working on them should you want to using the Auctiva platform.
You will then be able to create your new listings using all your imported images by clicking the tab on the Auctiva toolbar that simply says 'Listings'. The sub-headings under this are 'New Listings', 'Saved Listings' and a few more. When you create a listing - Auvtiva allows you to design your very own Template using your logo etc. or simply use over 100 of its own templates that they have designed for you and very good they are too.
You can also build a shop on Auctiva - another cool feature which would cost you money on Ebay but through Auctica - absolutely nothing. Setting up your shop is pretty much straightforward as you just have to follow the options on the Auvtiva toolbar under 'Shop' - you can customise your shop as much as you want. You will be given a website address for it so you can advertise it if you want - it will automatically use all your Active Ebay Listings as the items you currently have for sale as this is what it was originally intended for, although as you become more familiar with creating listings you will find that you can create a listing strictly for your shop and not for Ebay.
I cannot tell you enough how impressive Auctiva is, as it also allows you to have a very cool scrolling slideshow on your auctions showing all your other live listings. If you are a seller on Ebay or looking to become a seller, I would suggest you check out Auctiva and take some time to understand it because it will single-handedly make listing and controlling your auctions, a complete dream.

FAKE "EBAY" EMAIL HAS A NEW TACTIC!! PLEASE READ!!

Hi folks, I just wanted to let you all know about a "new" tactic the fake "Ebay" emailers are using to gather your personal information. I have seen probably hundreds of emails from these people claiming that they're from "ebay" and that my account will be "limited" or "suspended" due to "unauthorized activity" or if I don't "update" my information by clicking on the link in the email I could be permanently suspended....
But, I will say, this one really takes the cake!!
Just recently, I received an email from "ebay" stating that I have received an unpaid item strike. This just floored me, as I had no clue what the heck they were talking about, and being curious, I had to read the email to see what this was about. I knew darn well that I had always paid for every item, so this had to be a mistake. Sure enough, it was for some item that I had not even heard of!!
And then there was the telltale "click on this link" which led to an area where I could enter my user ID and password to view this so-called report. All I can say is, it's a good thing that there is an Account Guard feature on the Ebay toolbar, which notified me immediately that it wasn't a legitimate ebay site, otherwise, I could have been in some real trouble !!
ALSO: I just received a "receipt" from "paypal" for supposedly purchasing an item from a seller that I have never heard of. This one was a little trickier to spot as fake, however, here is what told me it wasn't real:

It was a receipt for an item I never purchased
The "receipt" did not address me by my real name. Instead, it said "dear ebay member" (PayPal will use your real name)
The body of the message contained a link to "dispute" the sale (It opens a window to enter your ID and password!!)
The entire body was a gif image (Nice try!!)
As you can see, these scam artists are pretty crafty, and will do just about anything to get your attention.
I wanted to make other members aware that these scam artists are STILL OUT THERE, and **DO NOT**I REPEAT**DO

Irish infantry Cap badges

As the price of pre 1922 Irish infantry badges is going up and up the following are useful tips on spotting which sellers are flogging the fakes:
Munster regiment - The most common copy has a really fat and broad Tiger compared to the originals. The fakes come with both sliders but also with 2 horozontial lugs. While the older Victorian ones did have lugs but these were N to S (ie up and down) in my experience where as the copies often are E-W across the width of the flames on the greande. Look for the brazing holes on the reverse for the original bi-metal ones. There are lots of fake 1916 all brass ones but again with a fat tiger and the shorter slider common to the repro.
Leister regiment - If it does not have 4 brazing holes on the back don't touch it. The slider is also longer than the copies ones which stop at the base of the badge - they are heavy solid badges but lack the brazing holes. The 1916 all brass fakes have this same slider and are in a very yellowish metal.
Royal Irish - Faked to death often with JR Gaunt.London mark. The originals tended to have voided strings on the harp (although Wilkinson's book does have a solid stringed one), long slider and a hole under the crown with a U shaped brass strengthening wire behind it. The copies sliders are shorter than most originals and stop at the bottom of the badge. Also they often have solid strings as this is easier for the faker to make.
Connaught Rangers - As above.
Inniskilling regiment - On the WW1 badges the flag afced to the left while post 1934 it flew to the right. I remain to be convinced by any RH flag in all brass is a genuine example. Look for the brazing holes on both types but later RH flag were siometimes made without them. However one of the common fakes have a falw in that the flag does not stand clear of the castle. The originals are only comnnected by the metal of the flag pole where as one of the common fakers dies has extra metal here so the flag is not cut out clearly but has a line dropping from the bottom edge of the flag. Clear to see when you are looking for it. As an aside the a/a versions with lugs are not cap badges at all but are still worn on the kilts of the RIRISH pipers and are still in production.
Tyneside Irish - Actually a shoulder title (soem collectors have a view that it was worn in the cap at some time in the war) so should not have a slider but lugs and a void under the crown. Commonly faked with a slider bearing the JRGaunt.London mark.
Royal Irish Fusiliers - The best way of spotting an original is to check for a brazing hole on the reverse of the grenade and often a strenthening strip behind the neck of the grenade. The a/a lugged versions are again a kilt badge and not a cap badge which should be slidered.

You cant change a auction after it has bids. Or can you

A Cautionary guide.
Ebay has a very simple policy, once a auction has bids, you cant alter the item description.
You can add to it, but you cant alter what you already wrote. Its cast in stone. An unscrupulous seller can change an auction after it has bids, they can even change the terms and description of the auction FULLY after someone has won the item.
Actually, you can.... It is very, very easy to do.
Thankfully, I have not heard of anyone doing it yet, but I would not be suprised if it has happened, or will happen at some point.
So, you could bid on a auction, even win it, and when the item arrives, you may find that the nice Fruit Machine you ordered to play at home, for that real in house pub feeling, is just a tiny apple seed.
Hmmm you think to yourself, Im sure I did not order a apple seed.
Lets have a look at the item I won on ebay...
So you fire up ebay, and go to the auction in question.
WHAT!!!!! EH!!!!!!
It says I am bidding on a apple seed, which if planted will grow into a tree, which will produce fruit. (so in effect it is a fruit machine).
But THAT IS NOT WHAT YOU BID ON.
The auction is completely different now, so complaining is going to be very difficult. After all, anyone you complain to is going to say, but it clearly says its a apple seed.

Avoiding illegal/fake DVDs on Ebay

Fakes/copies/bootlegs/illegal DVDs are rife on Ebay, unfortunately. And many Ebayers come to the community boards worried about leaving negs when they have bought one of these under the impression they were buying a legal/official DVD.
The following are a few tips to help you avoid the dodgy DVD sellers
a) Boxsets, particularly TV. For some series - particularly more expensive ones like The Wire, most listings on Ebay are Chinese fakes. The covers are different (although many sellers will improperly use the cover of the legal R1 versions when selling) BUT you need to look for comments on Chinese characters, removeable subtitles etc. If you see The Wire with Chinese characters on the front, it is a bootleg. No ifs, buts and maybes. Multiple Disney sets are also a common area for fraud on the site (although Disney will finally be bringing a legal one out next month - 10 films for about

It is incredible the number of people selling instructions on how to build a dalek and more incredible that people are actually buying them.
They all claim to have diaries of their actual build, if so many people have actually built a dalek then why does the country no look like the battle of canary warfe.
Dalek builders are friendly folk who will probably give you the information free. Do a google for plans and diaries and you will get the information free, most of these items listed are copies of a 1970's radio times, which is widely available on the internet.
If you want to build a dalek, save your money (you will need it), what is for sale on Ebay are copied documents and diagrams that are available on the internet anyway.

Recovery trucks are they mot exempt

MOT exempt Recovery trucks there is a lot of confusion and false advertising do you really want one and is the truck you are looking at really mot exempt?
I have a lot of experience in building commercial and plant bodies and the MOT exempt rule is regally brought up in conversation yes there are vehicles on the road that are mot exempt but I do not see the why any one would really benefit from this.
What makes a vehicle MOT exempt.

MOT exempt is a rule for plant vehicles only.

The vehicle must have a gross weight of over 3.5 tonnes (3500kg)

The vehicle must only be used for the purpose it was designed
Plant vehicles (what are they)
A plant vehicle is basically a peice of machinery on wheels it is made to do a job and has wheels to get to the job. The main vehicles that come under this class are farm machinery and cranes.

Cap Badge Spot the copies - London Regiment -

London regiment being the some of most desireable of Territorial badges have been widely faked. These are a few tips to spot the fakes.
1-4th bns - Don't pay over the odds for any all brass version of this badge as they are identical to the Royal Fusiliers badge which are very common.
5th bn- Both types pre 1920 and post 1920 versions have been copied. There is one type of post 1922 copy where the laurel wreath surround is very flat faced compared to the originals - really easy to spot if you know what to look for so examine all examples even the well know restrike fakers lots until you can spot the differnce!
7th Bn - The copies have solid backs to the grenades whereas the originals have brazing holes or sometimes 2 wires to attach the numeral 7. The copies also have small bubble flaws in the flames of the grenade. You also see these flaws in the spurious pre 1908 3rd London badge which is faked identically where as the originals were of a completely different pattern in one metal!
8th bn - If it has a solid crown then it is probably a copy sold by a company called SRS.
9th Bn - There are solid centred copies with lugs which are convincing copies but lack the age of the originals and are a bit thinner metal.
10th Bn - The Paddington rifles is very copied - often with a slider (not usually seen on pre 1908 badges)and often with the dreaded JR Gaunt.London. Check the DD of Paddington as this is a common flaw on the fakes whereas the originals are clearly stamped the fakes are merged.
The Hackney rifles versions being all brass are easy to fake but often the copies have really pooor rear defintion and the detail of the strike is not as crisp as on the originals.
11th Bn - Finsbury Park rifles - the copies are good but often have a die flaw that produces 2-3 flecks on the upper arm of the cross on the left hand side directly above the title circlet. Search for this badge and you will see examples with these flecks under the AR of ARIS which were not on the original ones.
12 Bn - The Rangers - A common copy with lugs or a slider. The only way to spot the copy is by the appearance and dimensions of the badge as the copies are slightly out of proportion compared to an original. The title scroll is a bit too deep (broad) from top to bottom. I have held cleverly aged fakes but the paint on the back is a bit glossy for a 90 year old badge! This applies to many of the BB badges
15th Bn - The copies of the POW feathers often have the same fat dumpy feathers and sometimes the JR Gaunt.London mark. The bi-metal verison are nothing of the sort as the badge should be in w/m or BB.
16th Bn - Must be voided and not solid - the common 'SRS' copies are always solid centred and with lugs. 18th Bn - London Irish - unfortunately except for the quality of the metal itself and the appearance the copies are very hard to detect especially when blackened brass. Do not get confused with RUC badges which were BB with voided strings and a void below the crown. 20th Bn - There are a lot of West Kent badges that have had their scrolls removed and replaced with a new 20th Bn London ones! Make sure the badge is one piece. 21st Bn - unfortunately except for the quality of the metal itself and the appearance the copies are very hard to detect especially when blackened brass. The dies making the modern copies are superb. 23rd London - The copies are generally very poor often with solid crowns as this is a complex badge to amke. the all brass fakes have opoor rear stamping. The older genuine ones have the brazing holes on each arm as do the old East Surreys which it is based on. 22/24th Bns - Same as for 1-4th in that they are identical to the usual West Surrey badges.
20th London.

Classic VW Beetle Buying Guide

Classic VW Beetle Buying Guide
So you are thinking of buying a Beetle? That's good but remember there are millions of them out there so think carefully before parting with your hard earned cash. Before you start to look for the car of your dreams you firstly have to decide how much you are prepared to pay? The next think to decide is what sort of beetle do you like, do you prefer the idea of running a sound early car which, despite poor lights, almost no heating and seemingly a total lack of power, has masses of character and will possibly increase it's value if you look after it? Or does the idea of a McPherson strut suspension, disc brakes and a heater that actually demists the windows sound more like your choice? But if you set your heart on a Karmann-bodied cabriolet, then you can expect to pay a lot more than you would for a sedan version of the bug.
What to look forEvery buyers guide we do starts like this: look for rust! But the first thing you want to look at is the panel between the door and the rear fender, are there signs of rust along the bottom of it? Rot here is a indication of the wheel arch has rotted through in front of the rear wheels, allowing water to enter through the sills. Rust in this area gets into the rocker panels, heater channels and eventually the floor pan as water enters the car. Look down between the running boards and the rocker panels for signs of the outer panel rusting through, waggle the running board and listen for sounds of crumbling metal. Check under the front wing behind the wheel, again rust is very common here and if rusted through it can allow water to enter the vehicle through the heater channels. Thoroughly check the condition of the front beam, the spare wheel well is another weak spot and should be examined, also look at the rubber seal round the edge of the body work for signs of rust or rot. At the rear of the car look at the rear bumper mountings, as they are prone to rust as dirt and salt are thrown up by the rear wheels. While you are under there look at the condition of the body mounting panels adjacent to the top of the rear shock absorbers for corrosion. Open the doors and check the condition at the bottom of the door pillars (right) if there is signs of rot then this can be an expensive job to put right, look under the carpet by the foot well and see if the floor is wet and if the heater channel is rotten. Lift up the rear seat and take a good hard look at the the state of the body down in the corners near the heater channels (left) by the regulator on later cars. Lift up the carpet under the rear window and take a look for signs of rust on the floor of the luggage area. One final check is underneath the battery as this is another

Oldcourt Ware - Identification

Oldcourt ware is an attractive lustre type ceramic produced by J. Fryer of Tunstall, Staffordshire until quite recently. Note that although the Oldcourt name is mainly associated with lustre-ware many non-lustre items were produced including the pixie figures, a range of character jugs and other items such as table-ware, decorative items etc. Unfortunately a fire in 1986 destroyed a lot of the companies records and few details are available regarding the Oldcourt history. Using my wife's collection and the little information I have found the following has been produced.
1921 to 1931J, Fryer Senior (born 1899, Tunstall) originally worked in the mining/engineering business before lying about his age and enlisting in the army during World War One. On his return he again worked as a mining engineer and married Mercy Jones the daughter of a local pottery manufacturer. DVD recorder Jargon Buster

Not only are there different dvd recording formats, but each recorder also has various connection, recording, editing and playback facilities that come with their own, often mystifying, jargon and confusing compatibility issues. To untangle this mess, we explain thge main features of dvd recorders.
Rewritable DVD FormatsDVD RW is the widely available system. Discs can be reused 1,000 times and are compatible in almost all existing players. Basic editing is possible but non-linear edits(such as reorganising the order of the programmes or scenes) are not.
DVD-RW (VR mode) uses DVD-RW discs as supported by leading manufacturers. When formatted in VR mode (video recording) you can make non linear edits, but recordings aren't widely compatible. disk life is also around 1,000 rewrites.
DVD-RAM is mainly supported by Panasonic, Toshiba, JVC, and Samsung. Disks are usually come in protective cartridges and enable non-linear editing. They can be reused up to 100,000 times but recordeings are compatible in very few players.
Write-once DVD FormatsDvd R is the use-once disk for most DVD RW recorders. You can accumulate recordings on a disk until you are finished, and you can delete individual recordings but you cannot re-record. Disks must be finalised (sealing the disk contents) before playing elsewhere, but once done compatibility is very high.Dvd-R is the widely used write-once format as found in DVD-RW and DVD-RAM recorders, as well as many computers. As with DVD R, you can compile recordings gradually or remove recordings from playback without being able to claimback the space or reuse the disk. Disks must also be finalised, after which compatibility in other players is generally good.

"DAISA is the name of the Lladro company which holds the intellectual property rights for the figurines"
"NAO is a brand of the Lladro group, whose pieces are distinguished by the simplicity of their forms, lighthearted subject matters and colourful presentations. All the NAO pieces are executed by The City of Porcelain team of sculptors, and are made at the workshops the company has in the town of Xirivella in Valencia (Spain)"
To clarify..."DAISA" appears on both Lladro and NAO. The Lladro range is more extensive and expensive range than NAO.

We frequently see reprinted programmes offered for sale as originals, sometimes through lack of expertise and sometimes knowingly, but there are a number of ways of telling the difference between the two. The following points are ALL vital to ensuring the programme is an original.

The front cover must be a chelsea blue colour and not have a lilac tinge to it.
England V West Germany written on the front of the cover should have a blue tone to it, the reprints are in black.
On page two there is a photo of a cigarette packet, this must have noticeably different shades of colour on each side of the packet and not be similar.

Ebay Scams

How To Recognize Ebay Scams
Shopping and selling on eBay can be one of the most rewarding experiences on the Internet. However you need to be careful of scam artists who will try to take advantage of you through various types of fraud. If you do get scammed on eBay there are ways you can get your money back. However, it is very difficult to ever catch the fraud artist and it is a lot simpler if you can recognize and avoid frauds from the beginning.
One of the scams that are very common today is fake e-mails that appear to originate from eBay or PayPal or even your bank. Keep in mind that anybody can spoof any e-mail address and send an e-mail that appears to be from somebody else. It is even possible to spoof an e-mail coming from the president of the United States. So when you see any e-mail in your inbox that comes from eBay or PayPal and asks you to log in to confirm your password the chances are that this is a scam. E-mails that you receive of this type will have eBay letterheads or PayPal letterheads and will direct you to a link that appears to be eBay or PayPal. However, if you look closely at the bottom of your browser you

Football Tables - A Pro-Player's Recommendations

Type 'Table Football' into E-bay, and you are faced with a bewildering array of tables and claims. I am a professional player and administrator of the game, with experience of playing at the highest level in the UK, Europe and the USA, having played the game for 30 years on a wide variety of tables, and offer my personal view on buying tables for home or commercial use. This does not represent official advice from the British Foosball Association (BFA) or International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF).

Question 1 - What/who is the table for?
(a) Young children (4-8yrs) - there are plenty of cheap tables around, but the Monneret make tables designed for children, and have held junior championships via the Football Association community programmes at league clubs. Cheap tables tend to have flimsy rods which bend or break easily, be satisfied that the rods are strong enough to stand up to use - and abuse. It is enough to see if they enjoy the game and if so, consider buying an better table by the time they are 8 or so. Full-sized tables may be unsuitable, particularly if junior's eyes are at or below rod-height (about 4ft tall), although one 7 year old competitor at the world championships last year had a box to stand on. Avoid the temptation to get a table endorsed by Junior's favourite footballer, as the quality is usually non-existent, as are most tables sold by supermarkets or sporting goods stores. If Dad (or mum, or elder siblings) want to play as well, pay more to get a decent quality homeplay table (e.g. Garlando G500) to avoid tears when the christmas present falls apart.
(b) Older children (9-16 years) - most of the top players started playing competitively in this age range. If you buy a cheap table, chances are your money will be thrown away as either the rods will bend, or the table offers no opportunity to develop skills (e.g. slippery surfaces or badly-designed player-figures). Many of the recognised manufacturers produce decent-quality home-play tables (e.g. Garlando G100/G200/G500/G5000, Tornado Whirlwind, Storm, Cyclone, Jupiter Homesoccer).
(c) Schools, colleges and workplaces - these tables can take quite a battering so stick to reputable brands. Most coin-op tables can be set to a range of prices to suit local pockets, or to freeplay as required.
(d) Pubs

Gold Jewellery : What's Real and What's Fake on eBay

There are so many rock-bottom bargains on eBay, especially with jewellery
items, that it's all too easy to lose sight of what you're actually bidding on
and buying.
There's fine jewellery and there's costume jewellery - expensive and cheap -
superior quality and inferior quality. There's absolutely nothing wrong with
costume jewellery but make sure you haven't paid a fine jewellery price for it!
The descriptions that accompany "gold" items are limitless. Ruthless
sellers will often make a fake item appear to be more expensive than
what it's worth in a number of ways. Firstly, they'll list it in "Fine
Jewellery" instead of costume jewellery. Some buyers have felt proud
having just paid a mere $30 for a genuine 18K gold bracelet and
probably still, to this day are wondering why their wrist is turning
green or black. Key words such as "authentic" and "genuine" lull buyers
into a false sense of confidence that their purchase is exactly what
the seller claims it is. Bad mistake! People can claim what they like
but the reality is, unless YOU know the difference and ask the right
questions, you'll get a cheap import which is only gold-plated (not
solid gold) or electroplated (same problem) or goldtone (metal in a
gold colour - no solid gold at all). Any item which is plated will
eventually wear away to whatever lies underneath. Often, it's a ghastly
coloured metal which will give anyone with sensitive skin a rash from
hell. A classic example is Permagold. Within a week of wearing the
"real gold" bracelet, I developed a rash, my skin discoloured and the
bracelet was tarnishing - yes, the lifetime guarantee "not to tarnish"
was absolute rubbish.
Rule number one: always ask the
seller if the gold is hallmarked. Gold is stamped according to its purity. You
can have 24K, 22K, 18K, 14K, 10K

There is an alternative though, called Smartstamp, this is a software package available from the Royal Mail that allows you to print your own stamps, from the comfort of your home.
You simply pay up front for your postage, then print out stamps as and when needed, simple really!
You can not only print stamps, but also print the address, even custom logos to make your postage more professional, its very easy to use, but you will need to invest in some accurate scales as you need to weigh the items yourself. Dont use cheap scales, as your customers will be annoyed if the have to pay extra postage and handling fees when you get the weights wrong.....
It has some drawbacks, such as it does cost about five pounds a month, JUST TO USE IT, thats on TOP of the cost of your postage. You can save a little by paying for a year up front, but considering how using the package is saving the Royal Mail money, its a bit of a cheek that they charge you.
Their marketing department seems to be run by idiots also, as I have had offers sent to me for freebies, only to be emailed (after claiming them) that it was a mistake and only available to new customers! Talk about looking after existing customers....not.....
Those things aside, its great to be able to put aside a fixed amount of money for postage, and not worry about running out of money (as you have set it aside for postage earlier). Being able to know how much postage costs, and for different services (parcel force, recorded, next day, first, second class) etc is useful as you can give accurate quotes for different services to your buyers.
As the postage is allready done before you go to the post office, you just need to hand them over, and they wont need to weigh them all (be warned though, some post offices are a pain in the rear end, and WILL insist on weighing all the items, a good post office wont though.)
I seem to have had a few parcels go missing if smartstamped and put in a post box, so I recommend handing them over at the postoffice AND getting a proof of posting for them (write one out before hand, the post office will give you a pad of them for free if you ask nicely)
To find smartstamp, just go to royalmail.com and look for the link!

MP3/MP4 player 'all is not what it seems.....'

So you want an Ipod? Well, there are those nice little
Chinese versions that are a fraction of the price. I even thought of buying a
job lot of them myself and selling them on ebay. So I bought one, seemed OK, it
all worked, left my positive feedback and then I started to have some
difficulties. It stopped playing its own video file format 'AMV' apparently
there was a 'format error'. I was not going to let a 7mm-in-depth fake
Ipod beat me, so I battled into the small hours to formulate a solution. To my
dismay, 2 hours later, I had no solution, it was 1am, work the next day - I
went to bed.Having returned home from work the next day, my mission begun again; I thought
that formatting the unit may solve the problem, I had tried a hundred versions
of its own utility software, attempted many different variations of original
file formats - nothing. But then I cracked it, and in doing so I unveiled the
dirty little lie they tell you to convince you it's a good buy! I paid for a
4GB unit, on first view that's just what it was, 4GB, it showed up so on my PC,
must be correct? When I attempted to format the unit with its own utility it
didn't work - 'Unsupported Disk Type', or 'Not Supporting Disk Type'. Odd, because
this was the software they supplied me. Windows wouldn't let me format it
either, odd indeed. So I settled for attempting to create an 'Encrypted Disk
Partition'. I made a partition of 64MB, it did as I asked, however after that
Windows no longer showed me a capacity of anything near 4BG, but something
nearer 2GB. Very convenient how its own software couldn't format it,
suspicious? Well, I removed the partition, 0MB and guess what, 2GB was the
capacity. I formatted via Windows disk tools, 2GB. Of course now all the
problems were resolved, AMVs play a dream, the only problem, I bought and paid
for a 4GB unit, the capacity had been FALSIFIED, and this FALSIFICATION was
causing the errors.

BEWARE OF PAY PAL

DO NOT USE PAY PAL TO PAY FOR ANYTHING BECAUSE IF YOU BUY AN ITEM WHICH TURNS OUT TO BE STOLEN AS I DID A MOBILE PHONE IN THIS CASE . I LOGGED A CLAIM WITH PAY PAL BUT WAS GIVEN THE EXCUSE THAT BECAUSE THE SELLER HAD LESS THAN 50 FEEDBACK I WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ANY REFUND. THE CROOKED SELLER IS STILL ON E BAY AND I AM SHORT OF 80 POUNDS. PAY PAL WILL TRY EVERY TRICK IN THE BOOK TO AVOID PAYING OUT TO ANYBODY. THEY ARE A DODGY OUTFIT THAT IS EXACTLY WHY I CLOSED MY PAY PAL ACCOUNT. THEN THERE IS E BAY WITH ITS REFUND POLICY THIS IS JUST AS BAD AS PAY PAL THEY ASK YOU FOR PROOF OF AN ITEM NOT AS DESCRIBED BEFORE THEY WILL PAY OUT A PITTANCE USUALLY LESS THAN 10% OF THE ORIGINAL PRICE HOWEVER TO GET YOUR MEASLY AMOUNT OF MONEY E BAY WANT INDEPENDANT TESTS DONE AT YOUR EXPENSE BEFORE THEY WILL PAY OUT. IT SEEMS THAT THE ONLY WAY TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK IS TO BECOME A CROOK YOURSELF AND RIP SOMEBODYELSE OFF BUT AS LONG AS E BAY DO NOT PAY OUT THEY WONT REALLY BOTHER

Beware! Scam Beswick Alice In Wonderland Figs
Over the last six to twelve months, I have reported dozens of occurrences of shill bidding on Beswick Alice In Wonderland Figures. The latest occasion was 17/06/2008 when a seller used one ID to shill bid on all of their listings and ended up winning them all, the genuine members who bid were all conned and no one got what was rightly theirs.
Remember this individual didn't sell any of the Beswick Alice In Wonderland Figures and other items they had listed, I'm certain they will be relisted under yet another new ID.

DOCTOR WHO BATTLES IN TIME SEALED PACKS- 9 OR 10 CARDS?

Beware if you are bidding on sealed packs of Battles in Time cards. Even if they are sealed, if a seller says *Each pack contains 9 cards* they may have screened out all the packs containing Super and Ultra Rare cards and may be selling them separately. Packs with a Super Rare or Ultra Rare card in will have an extra card in (10 cards).See the FAQ on the Battles in Time web site for more details. The problem is that if you don't get any 10 card packs in your order you will never know if a) they had been screened out before you had a chance or b) you might just have been unlucky. There is no way of knowing, unless you are lucky enough to get a 10 card pack of course. Whole sealed boxes of cards are OK I guess as the sellers haven't had a chance to sort them first. Look if the seller is selling Ultra/Super rare cards as
separate auctions. Where did they get them from? That's what made me suspicious of one seller.
As long as you're happy not to get any Super or Ultra Rare cards in your packs then bid away, but this fact is not always 100% clear. I wouldn't want any buyers to be disappointed. I am sure many card sellers are trustworthy, especially
if they explain that some packs contain 9 cards and some contain 10
cards, but take care.Have fun Battling in Time!A concerned Dad...

American HO Diesel Trains - A guide to buying in the UK

Why American?
Some people model American railroads in ho scale because of the immense range of what is available others simply because of what they have seen when in the states, maybe someone has bought you an american loco or you are just fascinated by the different railway scene over the pond or maybe you just dont want to run a fleet of class 66s? There are many older types of loco still hard at work in the u.s in loads of different company liveries.
